My birthday is in 2 months or so hint hint.

Also, if you're interested in rap music or ridiculous future technology (I, for one, am interested in both) check out this version of that kinda sweet new Prodigy single from a few posts back, which is translated into Spanglish using Voxonic's automated voice translation technology, along with, apparently, 1467 other languages. I can't wait for the Basque version!

the biggest loser! [Feb. 1st, 2008|09:35 pm]
I'm fascinated by the story of the rogue French trader. This guy was a fairly low ranking trader for France's largest bank, who went to great effort to circumvent internal controls perform unauthorized trades to the tune of losing $7.2 billion dollars for his employer, Société Générale. Think about how much money that is - oh wait, you can't, it's too much.

My favorite part is, they have no idea why he did it.

Even as bank executives were scrambling to deal with the trail of destruction, they were at a loss to describe his motivations. Société Générale executives said that the early investigation indicated the trader didn't earn a dime on his actions. They also said he appeared to be acting alone.

What's fascinating about this isn't necessarily that one person acting alone and without any motives that a sane person would recognize can do a lot of damage - we have ample evidence of this, unfortunately - but that he was able to do it from so deep inside a huge organization, over such a long period of time, without anyone noticing. Something is broken here.

we voted for oprah, obama, and eric b [Dec. 4th, 2007|08:08 pm]

Was kind of inevitable that I posted this at some point. Ghostface Killah and Beanie Sigel two of my (and, ok, the rest of the internet's) favorite rappers, together on a track at last. It's not as good as the best of either of their individual material, but it's still pretty damn good. The video is pretty boring but on the other hand, it looks like it was pretty cheap to make!

Pretty excited about this album.

On a worse note, rest in peace, Pimp C. :(

now i'm paid a hefty hefty fee [Nov. 29th, 2007|08:13 pm]
[info]flurious posted this today and I can't stop thinking about it. The implications are really deep. You can now parlay being an internet meme into riches and fame via Madison Avenue. This is not necessarily a bad thing (nor is it entirely new) but think of the possibilities!

- Ask a Ninja how to save a bunch of money on your car insurance by switching to Geico!

- "I CAN HAS WHOPPER SUPREME?"

- I like turtles, and also the 2008 Nissan Sentra!

- Leeeeeroy Jenkins special at KFC!

- Make your own for Goatse!

I am so looking forward to the future. (In all likelihood, Snoop Dogg is just going to keep getting more like this in it too. More points in favor!)

that's our job, to be on youtube [Nov. 11th, 2007|10:02 pm]
'I got a smart remark on TV, then I was on YouTube saying it was gonna be a hot summer. A week after that I landed in Newark Airport... [tangent about regional airports that I can't make myself transcribe]... Greeted by who? NYPD intel. I said "How y'all doing?" They said "Why did you leave?" I said "The Honorable Judge Catelbo let me off probation, so I'm allowed to go where I want, sir." They said "We seen you on YouTube." I said "Why do y'all keep watching YouTube? Why y'all on Youtube?" They said "That's our job to be on YouTube."' [source]

New Cam'ron mixtape, available at KillaCamSpace (haha) for freeeeee is pretty good. It's almost worth it for the opening monologue, quoted above, but some of the songs (not, I hasten to add, anything close to all of them but come on, name a double album without filler) are pretty nice as well. This one is pretty good, as is this one, which that Breihan guy likes too.

If that weren't enough (dayenu!) Cam is releasing a DVD soon called, apparently and amazingly, "Here's Cam'ron (You Little Yentas)".

Now, I'm not gonna say these recent incidents of certain mainstream rappers turning towards the Judaic (see also Jay-Z: "Rich niggas/black bar mitzvahs/mazel tov, it's a celebration, bitches!/ L'Chaim!" complete with smashed glass in the video) constitutes a trend just yet, but let's just say I hope it becomes one.

In not-rap-related news, Orangina is targeting the furry demographic. I am not sure I trust French people anymore.
